The Buhr Print

£25.00Price
  • A “buhr”  was essentially a layered series of ditches and earthen ramparts which provided protection to the civilian settlement and to the strategically important military base for Tamworth which at the time was the border of the Saxon and Danelaw (Viking) territories.

This artwork reflects both the construction of the early Tamworth Castle as well as the life within it.  In the background is the “Wyvern Dragon”. This is a two footed dragon with a venomous tail which frequently appears in English heraldry. It is thought that the Wyvern Dragon was included in the standard of the Kingdom of Mercia as an acknowledgement of Aethelfaeda’s roots in Wessex, being the daughter of Alfred the Great.

  • Postage and Packing included within the UK.  Except for the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.
